Pura (Temple) Rambut Siwi - approximately 17 km eastern of Jembrana town. It is a temple to worship God who manifest into a God of agriculture. Drops down in the southeastern part Pura Rambut siwi there is Pura Segara. This temple also called Pura Taman. Adjacent to it there is Pura Penataran. In the event, especially if there pujawali (temple anniversary/festival), those three temples are apparently in association. Pujawali held every six months on the day Buda (Wednesday)Umanis wuku Prangbakat (Balinese calender). Generally when we pray to Rambut Siwi Temple is certainly also performed worship in Pura Segara, and Pura Penataran. Rise to the top of the South-west then stands majestically Rambut Siwi temple. Noting the location of the three temples arrangement, obviously appears the temples are very old. Since before the Mpu (Priest) Kuturan teaching to develop Tri Kahyangan (Three temples) in every village in Bali, there were three types of temples in every kingdom in Bali, Pura Segara (Sea), Pura Penataran Surface), and Pura Puncak (Peak/Mountain). Pura Rambut Siwi is classified its peak (Puncak) because it is on top or on the plateau when viewed from the Pura Segara, and Pura Penataran. It symbolizes the worship of God animates Bhur Loka (Bottom), Bhuwah Loka (Surface), and Swah Loka (Top). Those three temples depicts that God exists everywhere, in the bottom, surface, and top of nature.
In addition, Those three temples is the media to plead for peace in the Tri Loka (Theree Nature). Appeal for peace in the Tri Loka was expressed in Atharvaveda mantram in the quote above. If sky, air, land, and water on earth in peace the agrarian life originate on the farm existence certainly went well. People in the area Jembrana praying to God in Pura Rambut Siwi, Pura Penataran, and Pura Segara for the earth, water, air, and sky uninterrupted function a source of life in Jembrana agrarian economy. Economic prosperity depends on the community has all their needs to eat, drink, clothing and housing. If the land, and water damaged, the air is full of pollution then it will be difficult to depelove the agriculture well.
Why this temple is now more known as Pura Rambut Siwi? It was related to the arrival mythology of Mpu Dang Hyang Nirartha from East Java or Majapahit Kindom to Bali. According to the Mpu Bhaskara Murti of Geria Madu Sudana in Jembrana, when Mpu Dang Hyang Nirartha came to Bali one of the temple that he visited is Pura Rambut Siwi. When he entered the temple, the temple's guard require that the Mpu Dang Hyang Nirartha pray in the temple, failure to do so, he will be attacked and bitten by a tiger. Because required, then he do the pray in the temple, and then it turned into a ruined temple. Because of this, the temple's guard finally apologize to Mpu Dang Hyang Nirartha. In addition, the temple's guard ask him restored the temple in its original. On his power, Mpu Dang Hyang Nirartha returned the temple intact to normal. Mpu Dang Hyang Nirartha take a piece of his hair (Rambut) he placed in the temple to be a means of worship in the temple. Since then the temple is named Pura Hair Siwi. Rambut Siwi name is more popular until now.
When the Mpu Dang Hyang Nirartha came to Bali, Jembrana was rulled by I Gusti Ngurah Rangsasa. It is said that the ruler is held the doctrine Bairawa. Bairawa Doctrine is derived from the Tantra. In ancient times many Tantric misinterpret this. For example, there is a doctrine that states are defined as maituna about sex freely and erotic. Reality is an attitude maituna teaching yoga to strengthen and enhance relationships within male and female. Of the relationship will emerge from within the greater spiritual power. It seems this Tantrayana philosophy straightened by Mpu Dang Hyang Nirartha when it comes to Jembrana particulary and in Bali generally.
