Pagerwesi  is celebrated in the connection of Saraswati day.  Pagerwesi are held on Buda (Wednesday) Kliwon Sinta. There are a lot of cultural celebrations in Bali. This ceremonial event makes Bali a unique place. The cultural atmosphere in Bali will not even disturb you. The Balinese will kindly show you if there were any celebration you might want to watch. One of those unique cultural events is “Pagerwesi”.  There will be the Pagerwesi celebration in Bali every 6 months.

Balinese brought banten (offering) as their gift to God on Pagerwesi celebration. Banten also called sesajen. In this particular day, every institution including government office, school and other public and private business are not doing business. It is a holiday.

This day  is the last of a series of 10-days Saraswati celebration that starts on Monday  Umanis Watugunung also called candung Watang day. After going through the series of celebrations for each day, finally arrived at the celebration Pagerwesi.

If studied carefully, then 10 days ending on Pagerwesi is a series of Balinese spiritual sadhana. Each day from 10 days contains certain rules that must be done by every race in order to then achieve the so-called stronghold-(Pageh) or Pagerwesi. And this pageh attitude can certainly be achieved when you've reached enlightenment (Saraswati).

Sundarigama mentioned in the text as follows: On the day of Buda Kliwon Sinta called Pagerwesi, at which point Pramesti Sang Hyang Guru (Shiva) followed by Dewata Nawa Sanga aimed at saving all living creatures lives that are fated in nature. That is why the sulinggih should worship the creation of Bhatara Parameswara propery.

In the Vana Parva stated there are five kinds of Teacher worthy of worship. For example, the Atman (teacher), Mata Pita (Mom and Dad). Agni as Guru is God Himself as Sang Hyang Guru Pramesti revered during the Pagerwesi day. These teachers teach worldly and spiritual knowledge. To those teacher, people are also obliged to serve.

In the Hindu tradition in Bali, Atman as a teacher placed in Palinggih Bhatara Hyang Guru in Kamulan (family temple).  In the lontar (ancient book)  Wesi Gong and other sources palinggih Kamulan as Linggih Sang Hyang Atma in its function as Batara Hyang Guru. This Atman is Brahman which is the source and witness life in Bhuwana alit.

In the excerpt Sloka there Dharmasastra Manawa explained that in our lives in this world, in addition to worship the Lord should not ever forget the dedication to the father and mother to the ancestors as Batara Hyang Guru. Scripture said that the dedication to the parents will rewarding happiness in Bhur and Bhuwah Loka.

Especially devoted to spiritual teachers, we will be able to reach Swah Loka or nature deity. Devoted to the Master, can be done during the holiday Pagerwesi for Hindus in Bali, and "Guru Purnima" for Hindus in India. Holidays celebrated only as a warning only. The idea is for people always practice all the time what was taught by five teachers. Whoever is able and always live with holding on to what was outlined by five teachers, his life will like iron fenced (Pagerwesi). This means he will be protected from acts that "Asubha Karma".
