White Water Rafting in Bali

Bali, the island of cultural beauty, also has deeply wild side of winding rivers and small embankment villages that have become interesting explorations for travelers. Unlike the true "white water" rafting in Sumatra or Irian Jaya, this waterways provide more of a pleasant Eco-cultural tour than a sheer trail ride, but have the added advantage of interaction with both Balinese nature and traditions.

The best current rafting is on the Ayung river in the center of Bali, a journey that takes rider among lush jungle slopes, sudden, thundering waterfalls, and bright, open fields with small settlements nestled in between.

A thin river that is just 30 meters at its greatest width, the Ayung offers many opportunities to wade a shore for short treks, birdwatching, or just a quick swim. Most of this waterways is quiet with just a few areas of rapids that rate grades 2.5 to 3. On the official scale that deems 6 as the most dangerous, this trip is fairly tame, and safe for both children (preferably over age 10) and seniors in good physical condition.

Most trips are now headed to Bali Adventure Rafting and run only 2 hours, a 7 kilometers cruise by inflatable rubber rafts. Starting from the village of Begawan, participants gather at a traditional Balinese house where they are issued equipment and given a talk on area culture, rafting specifics, and trips highlights, as well as a chance to meet a guide and fellow passenger and ask a question. Some trips are longer and might include some jungle treks, village visits, craft lesson, or over night camping, so check your option to see what is available. Prices are usually reasonable and safety standards are high, with mandatory live vests and cushions supplied and guides that have been trained both in rafting and first aid.

Two travel groups offer rafting trips on the Ayung river: Mountain/Sobek and Bali Adventure Rafting.

Beside Ayung river, many more waterways that provide rafting in Bali, mostly of them in the same standard but the different usually at prices and the package. A lot of places in Bali to check this mater, some fliers will be put on your hotel front desk or you may ask the front desk attendance, they will please to provide you the informations.
