Omed-Omedan (Kissing Ceremony)

Hello Traveler, this time we will go to Sesetan Kaja Village in Denpasar. Its not to hard to reach Sesetan Kaja only 7 Kilo meters southern from Denpasar center.

Sesetan Kaja is an ordinary village around Denpasar, but there is one unique traditions that held on the day after Caka New years (Nyepi day) called Omed-Omedan (Kissing Ceremony)


Among the modern city life in Denpasar, this heritage tradition is kept by the people of Sesetan Kaja. The elder of the village told this annual tradition start on the 17th century, and continuous until now. 

Omed-Omedan means pulling each others literally. Omed-Omedan is about to agglutinative the familiarity between the teenagers  (girls and the boys). All the teenagers will come to the community centers of the Village (Balai Banjar) to joint the offering before the occasion start. They comes in a traditional dress up, and only teenagers are allowed to do this occasion.

The Balaganjur Soundtrack will be heard along the ceremony. The Pecalang will close the road and secure the ceremony. 


The Teenagers will divided to be two groups, Girls and Boys. Each group will point one person to represent their group. The chosen one will be lift up by the group and walk around to change the positions, and on their way back the chosen one will be converge and they start to pulling each other until they are embrace and kissed. Then the people will pour them with water that already prepared on the bucket or sometime they use hose. so that couple will get wet. And the people will cheer up. This will be do in turn of each group members.
